Little we imagined, that this project would quickly become one of the most popular Rainmeter suites and be used by millions over the coming years. Me, Xyrfo and many others have been adding to it ever since, making it more ambitious with every release. We were pushing what was possible with Rainmeter by introducing all sorts of exotic functionalities and interactions.
Over the years, the project grew to be quite the monster (for the better, or worse).
However, everything that has a beginning, has an end. Me and my partner started university, and later started our jobs, as the interest towards working on this project faded. In October 2013 we released the final version of Omnimo - 6.0.
A lot of things happened since then, our world changed (especially recently), and this made me self reflect and ask myself. Am I happy with Omnimo? Is it a project I can be proud of?
I wasn’t.
Back in my mind, I always thought that Omnimo was always a little bit unfocused, a little bit messy, perhaps more than a little. Many things were left unfinished. I realized that it deserves another go, with the wisdom and skills that I acquired throghout these years.
This project is one of dreams. I poured my heart and soul into perfecting it to the highest standard I could muster by myself. It was difficult, and it’s not going to be completely flawless. But my hopes are that you will find Omnimo 10 to be a significant improvement; a much needed redesign, cleanup and upgrade, all the whilst retaining the things we know and love about it. If you never used Omnimo, I would like to personally invite you to try it out and tell me what you think :)
Omnimo is still free and Open Source, and licensed under Creative Commons.
As is tradition, on the 1st of July 2020, we are starting our 3rd Desktop Contest, where you’ll get a chance to win cash prizes for posting a screenshot of how you used Omnimo.
The contest will be announced on DeviantArt, Twitter, Facebook and on Omnimo.info
Stay tuned!
